Saga car insurance for over 50s protects no claims discount against vandalism

Saga car insurance customers’ no claims discounts are now protected for instances where they have to make a claim as a result of vandalism.

The over 50s car insurance specialist is offering increased financial protection to its policyholders as the number of people victimised by vandalism is on the rise.

More than 1.7 million instances of car vandalism were recorded in 2008, and the number increased by 10 per cent in the first three months of 2009, now accounting for 17 per cent of all car crime, so Saga car insurance has increased its level of cover to reflect growing concern among the over 50s about vandalism.

The additional cover for victims of car vandalism will provide peace of mind and reassurance to over 50s motorists that the no claims discount on their car insurance premium will not be affected by making a vandalism claim.

Saga car insurance already covers common vandalism damage caused to cars, including key scratches, smashed mirrors, graffiti and slashed tyres, and now customers will not also have to put up with a reduction in their no claims bonus as a result of being the victim of crime.

Both new and existing Saga motor insurance customers will benefit from the additional protection, but they will still have to pay the excess, and provide a Crime Reference number, when they make a claim for vandalism.

Commenting on the enhanced protection, Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman Saga Group, said: “Being a victim of car vandalism is a distressing experience and we believe it is unfair to penalise people by reducing their No Claim Discount as a result.”
