Purnell reminds pensioners to claim WFP
09 August 2006
WFP was introduced to help those over 60 with the cost of heating their home throughout the winter months.
It is particularly helpful for those on benefits or drawing a pension, who may otherwise struggle to meet the financial commitments specific to the colder part of the year.
“Over eight million households will benefit from the £200 Winter Fuel Payment this winter, with those containing someone aged over 80 receiving £300,” said Mr Purnell.
“We want to make sure everyone who is eligible applies for the help they deserve. If you have not received a Winter Fuel Payment in the past, you need to apply in order to claim your first payment.
“The Winter Fuel Payment is one of a number of initiatives this government has introduced to help older people and underlines our commitment to tackling fuel poverty. No one should have to worry about how to heat their homes during the winter.”
First time applicants for WFP who sent in their forms by September 22nd will be guaranteed to receive their payment in time for Christmas.
