Pension planning is the number one ‘advice driver’ for consumers, accounting for almost 40 per cent all financial advice sought last month, according to Unbiased.co.uk.

The advice website has revealed that 39 per cent of requests for financial advice received in February were regarding pension planning as consumers seek independent professional advice to plan for their futures.

Savings and investment funds advice was the second most popular request, accounting for 28 per cent of all requests, while one in ten people sought independent help on mortgages.

Meanwhile, with ISA season already in full swing and the new allowance of £10,200 set to introduced to all eligible savers from 6 April, a further one in ten requests were regarding ISAs.

Commenting, Karen Barrett, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk said: “As more and more reports warn us of increasing numbers of consumers putting off their retirement planning it is more important than ever to highlight the ‘cost of delay’ and the effect this will have on final pension pots.

Encouraged by the findings, she added: “Consumers continue to see the value of specialist product advice when they are embarking on complex and long-term financial decisions such as pensions and investments, and are searching for an IFA to guide them through their choices.”
