NatWest or National Westminster Bank Plc is one of the largest retail and commercial banks in the UK, with their headquarters in London they have been part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group since 2000.

Types of loan

What types of loan are available to an individual borrower will depend on their individual requirements and circumstances for example how much they actually wish to borrow and their existing credit commitments or credit rating.

Lenders usually advertise their loans with using its Representative APR however this is not the amount you are guaranteed to get from taking out a loan with them. Remember however that if accepted for a loan the interest rate you are offered may differ depending on your own individual particulars.

Types of loan include

  • Personal Loans: also referred to as ‘unsecured loans’ as you do not need to secure them against an asset. This type of loan is normally offered to a maximum of £25,000 for periods of between 1 and 7 years, although this may vary by provider. In addition to the financial details of the borrower the rate offered by this type of loan can also be affected by the chosen amount and duration of the loan, some providers will offer their lowest rates for loans of between £7,500 and £15,000. However this does not mean that you should take out a larger loan which you could not afford to service.
  • Homeowner Loans: Are also referred to as ‘secured loans’ these are generally offered for amounts over £25,000. This type of loan is often ‘secured’ against an asset such as some of the equity the borrower owns of their home, to provide security on the loan for the lender. This means that failure to keep up with your repayments could result in your home being repossessed.

Before applying for finance

Before you take out car finance its wise to shop around to try and find the best deal, for a type of loan that fits your specific requirements. You may also want to consider other options such as using any savings you may have, this is because it could be that the interest rate you would pay on a loan would be greater than any interest you earn from your savings.
