Today’s Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) figures have put GMAC-RFC in the top ten of the UK’s biggest lending firms.

In the summer of 2000, GMAC-RFC was listed as the 60th largest lending firm under the same study.

During the past five years the company has grown phenomenally seeing a 31 per cent increase in mortgage loans just in the past year, while the overall market for loans only saw a gain of five per cent.

Stephen Knight, executive chairman of GMAC-RFC, said the company was “delighted” by the new figures.

He said: “Our growth has been achieved by offering mortgages for everyone in all sectors of the market under one brand, with the competitiveness and innovation in the product range matched by market leading service initiatives.”

GMAC-RFC is currently on track for double-digit growth in a market that is likely to shrink by 20 per cent.
