The vast majority – 93 per cent – of the 2100 engaged couples surveyed fell out over their wedding arrangements, with more than half of them citing the cost as the main cause of arguments.

It’s no wonder so many couples have financial headaches with more than half of them footing the bill – which can be up to £18,000 – themselves.

Getting married is the best day of most couple’s lives, however our results show that arguments over the wedding budget often make the path to the altar stressful and a cause of financial headaches,” comments Monica McCormack of Tesco Loans.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, however – 71 per cent of the couples said their wedding day was the best day of their life despite the PMS, and two thirds don’t begrudge a penny spent on their big day.
