As the end of the tax year draws nearer and with ISA season now in full swing, Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) have made their recommendations for the top performing asset classes in the forthcoming year.
According to findings from a poll of more than 1,000 IFAs conducted by several fund providers including Gartmore, M&G and Schroders, the top four asset classes that IFAs plan to recommend to investors are UK Equities, Emerging markets, Global Equities and Income funds.
For the second successive year UK Equities is the most popular asset class with 68 per cent of IFAs selecting this class, although it has to share top spot with Emerging Markets, which was also recommended by more than two thirds of IFAs as it has “grown in popularity” in the past 12 months.
The same can be said for Absolute Return, as it was “not on the radar of financial advisers in 2009” but this year more 50 per cent of IFAs plan to offer this asset class to their clients.
Meanwhile, the poll also revealed that a key aim for many IFAs this year will be to provide more diversity to their clients’ portfolios by investing across “a wider ranges of asset classes”.
