Investment confidence rises
24 July 2009 / by Rebecca Sargent
Investor confidence in Great Britain is on the rise, the latest Great British Investor report from the Investment Management Association (IMA) has revealed.
According to the body’s latest GB Investor Confidence index, overall confidence reached 106 in May, up from just 71 six months ago – any figure above 100 is deemed as positive.
The report also found that almost half (49 per cent) of investors view now as a good time to invest, while some investors believe the market is likely to improve further over the next six months.
Meanwhile, the number of investors who think they should be choosing risk averse investment options has fallen from 39 per cent a year ago to 23 per cent, testament to an increase in investor confidence.
In fact, 43 per cent of investors surveyed went so far as to say that if an investor spots an investment opportunity, they should take the risk.
Commenting, Richard Saunders, chief executive of IMA said: “Although investors are still cautious, the latest IMA Great British Investor report shows signs of increasing investor optimism compared to a year ago.
“If the investor confidence continues to gain momentum investors may start returning to the markets in the near term. IMA’s sales statistics suggest this may have started with the last six months showing healthy inflows and May’d figures being the third highest level ever.”
