Travel Insurance Might Not Cover Zorbing Warns AXA

As new adventure sports take the world by storm, AXA is warning thrill seeking holiday makers to check their travel insurance.

New trends, including zorbing – rolling down a hill inside a giant inflatable ball – are becoming more and more popular, with activity and experience based holidays experiencing a boom.

However, adventurous Brits should check their travel insurance before zooming off, AXA travel insurance has warned, as not all travel insurance providers cover for extreme activities.

Since new sports came into the picture, AXA has had to rewrite its travel policies to ensure people are covered, but not all insurers will have done the same.

Commenting, John Dacey, lifestyle claims manager from AXA said: “Whatever activities you’re planning on your holiday, make sure you tell your insurer. Many will be included on a standard policy, but it’s always worth checking.”

When it comes to buying travel insurance, Mr Dacey said: “Buying travel insurance should be as essential as checking they’ve tied the bungee rope to your foot before you jump.”

The warning comes as recent research from Confused.com found that some holidaymakers could be paying 500 per cent over the odds for their travel insurance through an agent.

Commenting, Steve Williams, head of travel insurance at Confused.com said: “While holiday insurance is a must-have, it makes little sense to pay through the nose for it, especially when shopping around for a better deal is likely to save consumers money.

“Price comparison sites enable consumers to trawl the market for the most suitable travel insurance policies on offer,” he added.
