Many people still travel abroad without taking out travel insurance because they want to save money, but this could be a costly mistake, urge industry experts Travel Insurance Web.
Far from saving travellers money, setting off without travel insurance could add hundreds or even thousands of pounds to the cost of their trip, the online travel insurance provider warns.
In today’s economic climate, adequate insurance protection is especially important, the website stresses, as redundancies and the rising cost of travel are putting increasing pressure on people’s finances.
“What would you do if you suddenly became ill or had an accident whilst on holiday?” asks a Travel Insurance Web spokesperson. “It could cost you thousands of pounds if you don’t have travel insurance as back up.”
The travel insurance provider says that with single trip policies starting from £5.75 a week for travel within Europe, or £22.99 for annual travel insurance, providing comprehensive cover, travellers have got no excuse.
“It doesn’t matter where you are going or for how long,” the spokesperson added, “getting adequate insurance cover is a necessity, not a luxury.”
Included in the cover on offer from Travel Insurance Web, is up to £10million for emergency medical expenses, costs of repatriation back to the UK, cancellation in case of redundancy, and protection for lost or delayed luggage.
