Judith, an esteemed travel writer, found fame as the host of BBC’s ‘Wish you were here’ – a role which has seen her cross the globe in a mission to seek out bargain holidays and encourage people to broaden their horizons.
She and her husband, sports commentator Neil Durden-Smith, will join passengers aboard Saga Ruby on her forthcoming cruise to the US and Canada in September.
The holiday makers, who will be stopping in Montreal, New York, Boston and Halifax, will be dining with the famous couple before being able to pick their brains in a special question and answer session. Judith and Neil will also be hosting some of the tables at dinner and accompanying passengers going ashore on excursions.
Commenting on her new appointment, Judith Chalmers said: “I have long-admired Saga cruises and holidays as an operator that takes pride in doing things properly. Providing the right level of support and advice during a holiday is just as important to get right as the quality of the destination and tours.”
In the second of her Saga trips, Judith will join passengers from Buenos Aires in time to enjoy the Rio Carnival. The South American Adventure departs on January 21 2008 and passengers will be calling at ports in Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive, Saga Group, added: “It is great to have Judith on the Saga Travel team. With her wealth of travel experience and wise counsel she has a great deal to offer our customers and our business. I am sure that many of our customers will be delighted to meet her either on board one of our ships, on one of our holidays or even at our holiday roadshows, which we operate throughout the UK.”
