Six Nations Rugby Fans Urged To Take Out Travel Insurance

With many of the matches being played in various countries including Ireland and France, Halifax travel insurance is urging people to make sure they obtain travel insurance before they leave home.

According to Halifax’s research, single trip travel insurance policies make up 50 per cent of sales, in which case, many people could find themselves out of pocket or without the necessary cover if they take more than one holiday in the same year so it could actually work out cheaper to get annual travel insurance rather than a single trip policy.

Paul Birkhead, Senior Manager of Underwriting for Halifax Travel Insurance explains: “Excited rugby fans travelling to France, Italy or Ireland during the tournament will no doubt check, double check, and triple check their passports and match tickets before they go, but one thing that often gets overlooked is travel insurance.

One of the main benefits of cover, according to Halifax, is that customers only need to take out a policy once a year to be insured for multiple trips within a 12 month period. However, when taking out cover, customers should ask themselves whether this is the only trip they are likely to take this year, does the level of cover meets their requirements or will they be partaking in any hazardous activity and are their personal belongings covered?

Mr Birkhead adds: “With more and more of us taking short breaks abroad, annual travel insurance is proving a more attractive proposition for many people. With little difference in price and in some cases actually cheaper, it makes sense to take out annual cover.”
