Newlyweds-to-be encouraged to get proper contents insurance

19 June 2007
Getting married can be a costly and stressful business, and insurance companies are warning potential newlyweds not to add to the stress by failing to have adequate home insurance cover.

As the summer season gets underway, so too does the busiest wedding season of the year, but insurers have found that many couples do not have the cover they need in case something goes wrong.

Vicky Emmott, senior manager of Underwriting for Halifax Home Insurance, told moneynews.co.uk: “Those looking forward to their big day are likely to have a house stacked full of wedding goodies including presents, bride and bridesmaid dresses, new suits and wedding rings.”

There are some insurers, such as Halifax, which provide year round cover, even if the home contents suddenly goes up in value. “Organising a wedding can be great fun, but also very stressful” she added. “The last thing people need is to discover they are not adequately insured when it matters most.”
