As flood damage spreads throughout the UK and an alarming number of people have found themselves without adequate insurance cover, Gocompare.com is warning people to make sure that their car insurance covers flood damage.
The comparison site has estimated that as many as 30% of UK drivers might not be insured, should their vehicle be damaged as a result of flooding.
Hayley Parsons, managing director at Gocompare.com warns that those with third party or third party, fire and theft will not be protected for flood damage, and that only those with comprehensive policies will be eligible for an insurance payout.
“Generally, drivers will opt for either a third party only, or third party fire and theft policy as these will cost less than comprehensive cover.” she said. “There is nothing wrong with purchasing these policies, but it is essential in times such as these that drivers know exactly what is and isn’t included in their policy cover.”
Comprehensive cover will provide the same as third party insurance – claims made against you by other people – and will also cover such things as flood damage, personal affects, upholstery, and stereos.
