Direct Line home insurance protects the big day with wedding cover

For people who are concerned about the added value of belongings in their homes when there is a wedding afoot, there is an extra 10 per cent cover with Direct Line home insurance.

With the average wedding now adding up to more than £20,000, industry experts recommend that married couples-to-be protect their gifts and other purchases that will be kept in the home in the weeks surrounding the wedding.

Informing home insurance companies that their home contains belongings of additional value could mean that if anything was stolen then, it could be replaced and not have such a dire an affect on the big day.

The wedding attire – dresses for the bride and bridesmaids, the groom’s suit – decorations, favours, photos, and gifts all add up to a considerable amount which could be lost without adequate home contents insurance.

Planning the wedding, the honeymoon, liaising with the caterer – couples have a lot to worry about and having adequate cover means that there is one less thing to go wrong.

Direct Line home insurance now offers an automatic additional 10 per cent contents cover for the four week period before and after the date of the wedding, so that couples and newlyweds can concentrate on enjoying the happiest day of their lives without worrying about the added value in their home, and how such valuable items would be replaced in the event that there was a fire, flood or theft.

Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at Direct Line, says, “No one wants to worry about insurance when they’re planning the most important day of their lives. It’s understandable that people have a higher value of contents than usual close to their wedding date, and at Direct Line we provide protection for our customers when they need it most.”
