Caravanning could be a risky business
25 May 2007
The caravan is making a comeback, according to recent reports, as celebrities including Kate Moss and Jamie Oliver are spied getting cosy in the everyman equivalent of a movie trailer.
But making sure you have full insurance cover is essential, Cooperative Insurance has warned.
With average claims on caravan incidents totalling £1,826, securing and protecting your mobile home is an important way of avoiding theft and damage.
The largest number of insurance claims report stolen caravans, while unpredictable British weather contributes to the second most common cause of claims, storm damage.
Immobilising your caravan is a must to make sure it can’t be stolen while a caravan alarm is increasingly necessary too.
Cooperative also recommends security devices such as a hitchlock, wheel clamp and locking wheel nuts.
The caravan revival comes on the back of a study from AA Insurance which shows that a fifth of Britons are planning a driving holiday in the UK this year, a more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly alternative to flying.
