AXA PPP healthcare has launched a private medical insurance plan exclusively for children, which could help ease parents’ concerns should their child need medical attention.

As more Brits become disillusioned with the NHS, many are deciding to opt for private healthcare. The new private medical insurance package from AXA PPP, named First Healthcare, will be available for £9.99 a month and will offer early access to consultations with experienced specialists as well as out-patient tests and scans to establish diagnosis.

Furthermore, should the child require hospital treatment, either as an inpatient or a day patient, the plan will pay for private treatment straight away provided the NHS cannot see the child within six weeks of when treatment should take place. According to the company, this arrangement enables the NHS to take care of urgently needed treatment while avoiding delays and helps keep premiums low.

The First Healthcare package also covers the cost of parent accommodation should they need to stay overnight in hospital with a child under the age 11, and telephone access to a qualified and experienced team of healthcare professionals 24 hours a day, all year round.

Head of product management at AXA PPP healthcare, Geoff Salter, said: “First Healthcare is for people who may not be able to afford private healthcare cover for their whole family but who want to make sure their children are covered. It will give parents peace of mind knowing that their children can be seen promptly as a private patient.”
