InsureandGo announces free child kidnap cover with travel insurance

07 August 2007
If a child goes missing for more than 24 hours after it has been reported to the police, online insurance provider InsureandGo.com has announced it will now provide free cover as standard with all of their policies.

The cover will pay out a maximum of £110,000 for children up to the age of 18 to cover such costs as accommodation, translators, and media activity required to help find the missing child.

Managing Director of InsureandGo, Perry Wilson, said: “We pride ourselves in our ability to give our customers peace of mind when they go away.

“After the disappearance of Madeleine McCann we had a number of calls from concerned parents enquiring what support they would receive from their travel insurance company if their child went missing whilst on holiday.

“At the moment this may not be covered in some instances so we decided to add it to all of our travel insurance policies for free.”

According to statistics from the Police National Missing Persons Bureau, says InsureandGo, up to 1,300 children aged 1 and younger were reported missing in the UK, and one in nine run away at least once before the age of 16.

Travel insurance can also provide cover for such things as medical expenses, lost luggage, cancellations and legal fees.
